COFFEE BEANS
COFFEE IS FRESH FOOD
Please everyone, you all need to start thinking of coffee as FRESH, ‘real’ coffee doesn’t come in pre-packaged lumps with use by dates a year into the future.
The general way of thinking is that:
Green beans last 3 years
Roasted beans last 3 weeks
Ground beans last 3 minutes
The above is only a guideline. I have often had roasted beans that last a month before I notice a real difference and with my limited knowledge am not able to get them to work through the BES900 anymore.
As soon as green beans are roasted they start being affected by oxidation and when they are ground the fine grinds are immediately inundated with moisture from the air, this means that they can expand and change. You may find that one day where you ground your beans and used them straight away you can get a great shot but the next day where you were disturbed and they sat around for hours before use you can’t.
If coffee was dead the above wouldn’t happen.
